Ducati at Misano (Race 2)SuperBike | Ducati | Desmodromico | Davies | Melandri | Aruba.it racing - Ducati Team
After the second place in Race 1 with Chaz Davies, the Aruba.it Racing - Ducati team did an encore in front of their fans in Race 2 at Misano thanks to the third place obtained by Marco Melandri. The Italian shot well from the fourth position, remaining always in the group of the first and engaging in a spectacular battle, first with teammate Davies then with Rea. On the final Melandri then tried to sew up the gap completely despite the precarious grip conditions, cutting the finish line just 0.595 seconds from the winner. Also Chaz Davies was the protagonist of a spectacular race, closed less than two seconds from the podium, in fourth position. Starting from the third row, the Welshman pushed hard from the first corners to extricate himself into the group, taking him to the top five. Some difficulties more than yesterday during the acceleration phase prevented him from repeating the podium, but Davies nevertheless consolidated the second position in the championship before the summer break. Michael Ruben Rinaldi has instead reassembled from the twentieth to the eleventh position with the Panigale R of the Aruba.it Racing - Junior Team, first among the "Independent" drivers. After nine rounds, Davies (278 points) and Melandri (193 points) are respectively second and fifth in the standings, while Rinaldi (59 points) is fourteenth. The Aruba.it Racing team - Ducati and Aruba.it Racing -Junior Team will be back on track in Portimão on 23rd and 24th August for two days of testing for the tenth round, scheduled from September 14th to 16th on the same track.
Marco Melandri (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati 33) - 3rd
"It was a great race 2. After a difficult and unlucky weekend so far, with the team we managed to find an ideal set-up to use the new front tire. Unfortunately, not being able to carry out FP3 and FP4 penalized us in Race 1, but today we redeemed ourselves. I was comfortable, I managed to be aggressive and we had a good fight with Rea, even though this made us lose some ground compared to VD Mark. On the final I was close and I wanted to try, but after a couple of risks I realized that we were too far. Anyway we go on holiday with a good result, and I am confident that we will soon be back to victory ".
Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati 7) - 4th
"Today I thought we had the potential to be with the first and play the victory, and initially we did battle, but after a few laps we unexpectedly suffered traction problems, I am a little bit disappointed, because the changes we decided to do after race 1 was not a good round for us, but it was definitely a better round than a year ago, so we can not complain - we have been consistent over the last two rounds and we have identified a couple of details very important, then entering the summer break with a very short podium gives us even more motivation for the last four rounds. "
Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing - Junior Team 21) - 11th
"After a start uphill, today in the WUP I found the right feelings. It is never easy to recover starting from the last row, but we can say that we have partially straightened a weekend so far difficult. Usually we can say ours, but at this level it takes very little to lose positions. Our pace was not bad, but today's result does not reflect our potential. Unfortunately now we have to wait a month to go back to driving in the tests, and two for the next race. I can not wait to grind kilometers ".
Stefano Cecconi, Aruba CEO and Team Principal
"Today Marco has redeemed himself with a good performance, which he probably could have done yesterday if he had played the FP4. We are sorry for Chaz, who in the attempt to take the last step forward has instead experienced some difficulties more than Race 1. We can not be completely satisfied, but the balance is positive. Now we have a long break, but first we will have a big party here in Misano for the World Ducati Week, where we are waiting for our fans. "
