The Aruba.it Racing - Ducati team took the podium in front of their fans in Race 1 at Misano, theater of the ninth round of the 2018 World Superbike Championship, thanks to a splendid second place in comeback achieved by Chaz Davies. The Welsh, seventh in qualifying, was the protagonist of a good starting point, immediately taking the fourth place and then gradually recovering ground. After taking the second position seven laps from the end, Davies then defended him to the checkered flag, thus centering the third consecutive podium. Marco Melandri, who could not play the FP4 due to a technical problem, unfortunately had some more difficulties. However, Ravenna did not give up, fighting for a long time in the group of pursuers to finish in seventh place. Michael Ruben Rinaldi was also on track with Aruba.it Racing - Junior Team, seventeenth at the finish after a tire change.
Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati 7) - 2nd
"We have to be satisfied with this result, it was not obvious as we started from the seventh grid and I think we got the best out of both my driving and the bike, the Panigale R is definitely competitive here, we just have to do a little bit step forward to play for the win, during the race I was able to get a clear idea of the areas in which to improve, so we will try to make the most of the data collected to be even more competitive in Race 2. We will start from the third row but now there I'm used to it, then today we had a lightning start and I hope to do another so tomorrow ".
Marco Melandri (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati 33) - 7th
"After not being able to continue the setup work yesterday afternoon because of the rain, we knew that the FP4 this morning would be crucial, especially to get familiar with the new front tire available. Instead, unfortunately, a problem kept us in the pits. This forced us to start in the race without any particular references and, given also a not optimal start, it was really hard. However, we have collected useful indications, which we will study to make further changes in view of Race 2 ".
Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing - Junior Team 21) - 17th
"In this round we struggled a little bit more than usual and losing the FP3, with so many new tire options available, made it a bit more difficult. In the race we lost grip at the front after a few laps. I decided to make a pit stop and come back with a different tire to do some tests and I regained confidence, so I'm sure that tomorrow we can say our own ".
Marco Zambenedetti, Ducati Corse Technical Coordinator on the track
"Despite the variable weather conditions, the free trials have been confirmed, today we have confirmed our competitiveness in the race. Chaz made a great comeback to collect another important second place, and even Marco ran with the usual grit but unfortunately was penalized by the difficulties encountered this morning in FP4. Now we will analyze the data to improve ourselves again in view of Race 2 ".
