The Aruba.it Racing - Ducati team is back on the podium in Race 1 at Laguna Seca (United States), theater of the eighth round of the World Superbike Championship, thanks to the second place obtained by Chaz Davies. The Welshman, author of the pole position, was the protagonist of an excellent start and signed the fastest lap in the second lap in 1'23.041 (new record of the circuit) immediately going on the run. A small uncertainty entering the curve 8 in precarious grip conditions - with about 50 degrees of asphalt temperature - led him to the second position, then kept until the finish line. Marco Melandri, penalized by a qualification concluded with the tenth time, showed great tenacity, recovering until the fifth position on a track where it is particularly difficult to overtake. The Italian has closed in crescendo, showing the best pace in the final stages, and tomorrow will start from the second position on the grid.
Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati 7) - 2nd
"It was a good race for us, we did everything possible with the weapons at our disposal, I lost the first position when I was pushing to go on the run, but I honestly do not think the final result would have changed. under pressure but we simply did not have the pace to do it in the last laps, he made a couple of smears at the corkscrew, but too small for me to mend the tear in. Overall I'm very happy, we did the pole and the fastest lap but we missed the biggest trophy, we collected data and learned a few things, so we will try to further improve and present ourselves in Race 2 even more competitive ".
Marco Melandri (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati 33) - 5th
"Today's race was not easy despite the weekend having started very well, we did not find the ideal grip in Superpole and starting from the fourth row, on a circuit where it is particularly difficult to overtake, complicated our plans. struggled to be constant, but from the middle of the race onwards I was more at ease, unfortunately, at that point we were too far to aim for the podium, I gave everything to try to take Laverty but I made a mistake on the last lap, and anyway It probably would not have been possible, tomorrow is a new day, starting from the front row will help, but the most important thing is to improve the race pace with the high temperatures ".
Marco Zambenedetti, Ducati Corse Technical Coordinator on the track
"After a positive Friday, today we confirmed our competitiveness despite the higher temperatures have changed the conditions of the track. Chaz gave all he had to get a second important place, and even Marco showed great tenacity but unfortunately was penalized by the difficulties encountered in qualifying. We will analyze the data to improve ourselves again in view of Race 2 ".
