Jorge Lorenzo repeats itself, two weeks after Mugello's triumph, winning the Catalunya GP at the Montmeló. The Majorcan driver, who started from pole position, took the lead on the second lap, overtaking Marquez, and then kept the lead of the race up to the finish, closing with a lead of more than 4 seconds on the Honda rider. Unfortunate Andrea Dovizioso's race, also started from the front row thanks to the third time obtained yesterday in qualifying. The rider from Romagna crashed before turn 5 while he was in third position and was forced to retire. In the general classification Lorenzo goes back to seventh place with 66 points, followed by Dovizioso with the same score. The Ducati is now second in the constructors' standings, with 132 points. Next meeting in the Netherlands, for the Dutch TT scheduled at the Assen circuit from June 29th to July 1st.
Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team 99) - 1st
"Today's victory was really beautiful! We have shown that we can win not only by entering the first corner first, but also by reassembling and overcoming the others. In truth it was a complicated race because I started badly and I lost several meters from Marquez, but I told myself that the race was long and that I had to stay calm. It was not too difficult to overcome Marc, because I had something more braking, but he always stayed behind me until the finish line. Now we have a very competitive package and I think this is the most complete Ducati ever: both I and Dovi have always been competitive this week. We have to take advantage of this situation because the Desmosedici now works well on almost all tracks, it does not consume too much tires, and this is a great advantage. Now let's enjoy this victory and then we'll think about the next race. "
Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team 04) - withdrawn
"The fall was my mistake because I was forcing a lot, to try not to be detached from Jorge and Marc. Unfortunately, there was less grip in the race than this morning and I could not drive in the same way. I did not expect it, I arrived too fast and I crashed. A pity because we were fast here too and we could do a lot of points, but now we just have to look ahead because we are fast and, even if we still have to improve some aspects, we are always playing the victory. We will think about the championship when the time comes, but for now we only think about winning races. "
Luigi Dall'Igna (Director General of Ducati Corse)
"I am very happy because here at Montmeló we have been fast with both of our drivers throughout the weekend. Jorge was very good and to see him drive like this, for those who love our sport, it's something really beautiful. I'm sorry for Andrea, who was doing a good race, but we are still satisfied because the performances of the last races make us confident also for Assen and for Sachsenring, two tracks traditionally less favorable for us.
