MOTOGP GERMANY: MARQUEZ DOMINES ON THE FAVORITE DRESSMotoGP | Honda | Championship | Sachsenring | Germany | Grand Prix | Victory | Rc213v | Pedrosa | Marquez | Leadership | Hayden | Podium
The latter weekend is a further confirmation: the 2017 World Championship will be held until the last race with suspended breath. If it is not clear yet, every race has a history in itself and, with such an overwhelming rally, leadership can change every weekend as exactly as it has happened in the last three racing trials: Vinales has given first place to Dovizioso in Assen Who has in turn turned to Marquez on German territory.
The Spaniard has always been well on the Sachsenring track and is virtually the undisputed winner of the last eight editions between 125, Moto2 and MotoGP; His Honda was no less. The only true rival in this triumphal ride was Folger on Yamaha Tech3 team customers who, guiding the prototype like a Moto2, undermined the Honda driver's victory by two laps from the end.
Even Pedrosa, third at the finish line, or better, his RC213V has since the HRC rider has actually won the podium but with a colorless race and with a huge gap from the head duo with 11 seconds and a half from the winner and with a Margin on the quarter of almost three seconds!
The novelty emerging from the German Grand Prix is that the feeling that comes from the mix between bicycle and tires makes the difference: on the track both Folger and Marquez have used the rear derailleur to close the curves and get out fast but while the Spaniard exploits All the track, the German pennlava narrower trajectories by taking less road and reducing the gap despite being riding a Yamaha customers who, on paper, should be less performance than an official Honda.
The spectators thanked for having lived an exciting duel for the second time in two great awards. And thanks also to Marquez who goes on vacation (the MotoGP stops for four weeks) as leader of the world rankings. But thanks also to Pedrosa that closes the big quintet by reducing his gap to 26 points from teammate.
"I am very, very happy," said Marquez. "Before starting the weekend I knew it was an important moment for the championship and that the Sachsenring was an important circuit for us. It was the place to take a risk and, if necessary, try to win. So I'm glad we took these 25 points and the championship's head before the summer break. I would like to dedicate this victory to Nicky [Hayden] and her family. I had promised myself after his accident because he was a friend. Honestly before the start I thought I would have to fight with Dani, but in fact there was another very fast opponent. I was very surprised to see Jonas there and I thought he could stay in the middle with the other riders, but he actually stayed with me! It was a tough opponent! The ranking is very short, with four riders in less than 10 points and with Dani not far away. Everything is open, so we must keep the same mentality, positiveness and work hard. Now we have a couple of days of vacation, but we have to be ready for Brno! "
These are Pedrosa's statements: "I'm pretty happy with this podium. We worked very well this weekend, trying to manage every situation. In the race I felt very strong in the first laps and I was able to stay close to Marc. Then I started to lose adherence to the back, but I thought it was not a big deal because in a long race it's normal to lose some grip. But when Jonas passed me and tried to follow him I did not manage to keep in touch. I tried to handle the bike, but when I heard the rubber was too spinning I opted for the podium. I expected to be a bit stronger, but all in all was a positive result and we got good points for the championship. I feel positive, we have two days of testing during the summer and we will work on the areas we know we have to improve, especially to make the tires work well and be so much more consistent in the second part of the championship.
